GATESVILLE, NC – The Gates County Board of Education announces that Superintendent Dr. Barry Williams has voluntarily resigned from Gates County Schools, effective July 31, 2026. During its workshop meeting held on July 20, 2026, the Board of Education voted to accept Dr. Williams’ resignation as submitted.

The Gates County Board of Education extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Williams for his dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to the students, staff, families, and community of Gates County Schools. The Board thanks him for his contributions and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.

To ensure a seamless transition in district leadership, the Board has appointed Dr. Chante Jordan to serve as Interim Superintendent, effective July 20, 2026, until further notice.

Dr. Jordan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to the success of Gates County Schools. Throughout her service to the district, she has consistently prioritized student achievement, supported employees, strengthened organizational systems, and fostered positive relationships with families and community partners. Her experience, vision, and dedication position her to lead the district during this important transition.

The Gates County Board of Education is confident that Dr. Jordan will provide steady, student-centered leadership while continuing the district’s mission of preparing every student for success.
